Pokies in Auckland CBD are dominated by one venue: SkyCity Auckland, where the casino floor holds more machines than any other site in the city. Around it, a smaller and shrinking number of pubs and bars host Class 4 pokies. If you’re heading into town to play, it helps to know which zone you’re in and which set of rules applies.

A map-style overview of the central city

Think of the CBD in three rough zones. This isn’t a venue list; it’s a way to orient yourself.

Zone 1: The SkyCity precinct (Victoria, Federal, Hobson and Nelson Streets)

This is the gaming heart of the city. The casino address is 72–78 Victoria Street West, at the Federal Street corner beneath the Sky Tower. The precinct includes the casino, three hotels, the SkyCity Theatre, restaurants and bars, and the NZICC next door.

  • Machines: “2,100+” according to SkyCity, plus table games, a Poker Room and VIP areas.
  • Age: 20+, with ID and dress code checks.
  • Hours: 24/7, except Christmas Day, Good Friday and 3am to 1pm on Anzac Day.

See our Federal Street pokies guide and SkyCity Auckland pokies for more.

Zone 2: Britomart and the waterfront

Britomart (Waitematā) station is the CBD’s transport hub, roughly 1 km downhill from SkyCity. The area is busy with bars and restaurants. Whether any particular venue here hosts pokies is something to check directly; we don’t list individual bars.

Zone 3: The wider CBD and city fringe

Pubs and clubs further out from the centre may host Class 4 machines. Under Auckland Council’s sinking lid policy, closed venues aren’t replaced and existing venues can’t relocate, so the number of CBD gaming rooms tends to fall over time.

  • By train: get off at Britomart and walk uphill.
  • By car: the SkyCity car park has 1,960 spaces, with entrances on Federal, Hobson and Nelson Streets.
  • Taxi or rideshare: use the pick-up and drop-off at 46 Nelson Street.

Keep it within limits

CBD nights can run long, and a 24-hour casino has no closing time to prompt you to stop. Decide on a budget and a finish time before you arrive. Return to player is a long-run average, so a session can lose far more than the RTP suggests. SkyCity offers “SkyCare Breaks” and self-exclusion via 09 363 6000, and any Class 4 venue must offer exclusion on request. Gambling Helpline Aotearoa is free on 0800 654 655, 24/7.
